Does Qwell™ contain any fish oil or krill oil?
Absolutely not! All of The Veggie Doctor products are vegan
Does Qwell™ contain Carrageenan or other harmful substances?
Great question! Thanks to feedback from customers like you we have made some major changes to our formulation and eliminated harmful substances, such as Carrageenan, Rice Bran Oil (high in Omega 6), Artificial Sweeteners (Sorbitol, Glycerin) and Artificial Colors, which are commonly found in other products! We have also switched to a one piece, easily digestible softgel.
What if I get an after burp or sensitive oil based supplements?
As much as we have tried to create the perfect balance of ingredients, some are still sensitive to oils of any type, including algae oil, so I do have a few recommendations that may help reduce or eliminate the 'algae' burps or click here [link to helpful hints video] to watch our video with helpful hints ...
1. If you are sensitive to oils, start with 1 capsule per day with a meal and work up to 2 capsules per day. This worked for most.
2. If your body responds well, take a Qwell™ softgel with a meal in split doses, one in the morning and one at lunch. Those that are sensitive to oil based supplements have been able to take Qwell™ with meals and get very little to no 'after burp'. If you take Qwell™ with food, your body will absorb it better, as your digestive system is turned on to digest the wide variety of nutrients, such as protein, carbohydrates and fats, in your meal.
3. If that helps, but you are still getting an 'after burp', it’s best to eat something, then take your capsule, then eat a little more in order to 'sandwich' your pill between layers of food.
4. Lastly, many customers have stated that refrigerating the capsules helps cut down the burping, so I just keep my bottle in the fridge.
How is the algae oil in Qwell™ Extracted?
There are several ways that algal oil is extracted, but the most common are hexane and water extraction. Hexane is a chemical commonly extracted from petroleum and crude oil. It is a colorless liquid that gives off a subtle, gasoline-like odor. It is commonly used when extracting algal oil, because it is quicker and cheaper to extract the oil. The hexane is then removed.
Unlike our competitors, The Veggie Doctor™ has opted to extract our algal oil using the WATER EXTRACTION METHOD, because we can extract the algal oil without any solvents or external enzymes. This keeps our algal oil pure and clean.
How many Qwell™ softgels should I take?
The general consensus is that we should be taking about 500 – 1000mg of Omega-3’s daily for general health if we eat a healthy, well balanced diet. This would be 2 softgels per day (820mg of Omega’3’s). Unfortunately, the western diet is not very balanced and very high in omega-6’s such as processed seed and vegetable oils, which can increase inflammation and could contribute to a higher risk of many chronic diseases. The proper ratio for omega-3:omega-6 is 1:4. A typical westernized diet has a ratio of 1:16, almost 4x higher than the recommended ratio! Following are some recommendations established by The Global Organization for EPA & DHA Omega-3’s (GOED).
500mg’s: For the general healthy adult population, in order to lower the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD)
700 – 1000mg’s: For pregnancy/lactation
>1g: Higher intakes are supported for a range of additional health conditions (ie: blood pressure, triglycerides).
If you feel that your ratio is skewed towards Omega-6’s (pro-inflammatory Omega’s) than increasing the dosage to 3 or 4 softgels/day may be beneficial.
